Hewdon Consulting was founded in 2001 by Nigel Smith and Dominic Williams. It would be nice to give a neat definition of what we do  - but life is not that tidy. Our work is always subject to changes in politics, economics, the markets and events, that sometimes happen with bewildering speed. When the world changes, we change what we do.

Broadly, we help people to   make sustainable communities and places by bringing different technical approaches together. - . We have a working knowledge of town planning, urban design, economics, the property markets and transport   as well as law and finance. We usually provide strategic advice rather than technical expertise, although we are both trained chartered surveyors.   We enjoy our work and our ambition is to keep a close involvement in the projects we undertake, rather than pursue business growth as an end in itself - we would rather be the best than the biggest.

Most of our work falls under one or more of the following headings:
— Public Policy
— Management Consultancy and Business Planning
— Interim Management
— Strategic Planning
— Development Planning and Feasibility Studies

In all our work, we aim to adopt a distinctive approach.
— We set our work in the wider context of our clients' strategic objectives, be they commercial, political, or social.

— We seek to bridge the gap between the narrow technical specialist and our client.

— We try to write and speak in plain English; we dislike jargon.
